    Questions employers ask

What does an office manager do?

An office manager runs day-to-day office operations: vendors, supplies, facilities, administrative staff, basic bookkeeping support and HR paperwork.

How much does an office manager make in Ontario?

Job Bank reports $19.97 (low), $29.38 (median) and $45.00 (high) per hour for administrative officers in Ontario, and a median of $30.00 in the Toronto region (reference period 2023-2024, revised November 19, 2025). The Ontario median is about $61,000 a year at 40 hours a week. Ontario's general minimum wage is $17.95 per hour as of October 1, 2026.

What is the NOC code for an office manager?

The National Occupational Classification code for this role is NOC 13100, Administrative officers (TEER 3). Use the code that matches the actual duties. Job Bank uses the same NOC code for office managers and office administrators. Office managers are usually paid above the median.

Do I have to include pay in an Ontario job posting?

Yes, if you have 25 or more employees. Since January 1, 2026, publicly advertised postings must include the expected pay or a range no wider than $50,000. They must also say whether the posting is for an existing vacancy and disclose if AI is used to screen, assess or select applicants, and they can't require Canadian work experience.

Is an office manager the same as an office administrator?

Job Bank classifies both titles under the same NOC code. In practice, an office manager usually has more authority, such as supervising staff and managing budgets and vendors.
