How to fill in each section
- Job titleUse the title candidates actually search for, such as "Receptionist" rather than an internal label. Add seniority only if the job needs it.
- About usSay what the company does and how big the team is. Candidates use it to decide whether to read on.
- The roleExplain the purpose of the job in a few sentences before the list of duties: who the person reports to and what they are there to achieve.
- What you'll doList the five to eight tasks that take most of the working week, in order of importance. Start each with a verb and leave out tasks that are rare.
- What you bringSeparate what is required from what is nice to have. Long lists of requirements put off capable applicants, so keep only what the person needs to do the job from the first months.
- Pay and benefitsState the pay or a range. In Ontario, employers with 25 or more employees must include it, and the range cannot be wider than $50,000. The amount must not be below the minimum wage, which is $17.95 per hour from October 1, 2026.
- Ontario disclosuresSince January 1, 2026, covered employers must say whether the posting is for an existing vacancy, disclose if AI is used to screen, assess or select applicants, and must not require Canadian work experience.
Other provinces have their own rules on pay in postings and on hiring. Check your province's official sources before you post. This page is general information, not legal advice.

Questions employers ask
What should a job description include?
A job title, a short description of the company, the purpose of the role, the main duties, the skills and qualifications required, the pay and benefits, how to apply and, for Ontario employers with 25 or more employees, the disclosures the law now requires.
Do I have to include pay in a job posting in Ontario?
Yes, if you have 25 or more employees. Since January 1, 2026, publicly advertised postings must include the expected pay or a range no wider than $50,000. They must also say whether the posting is for an existing vacancy and disclose if AI is used to screen, assess or select applicants, and they can't require Canadian work experience.
Can I use one template for every role?
The structure stays the same, but the duties, requirements and pay change with each role. Start from the blank template for a role we don't cover, or from a role page to get duties, requirements and Job Bank pay already filled in.
